So on Friday night I was having an interesting conversation with my girlfriend, Johnna, and my roommate Jake and his girlfriend Kate. We were talking about the word texted... Interesting conversation, I know!
So Jake said that a friend told him that "texted" wasn't a word, and that you should say "So-and-so text me" instead of "So-and-so texted me"... When I heard that I got very confused... That sounds like I am a person that is ESL, no offense to people that don't speak English as their first language. I have been speaking English my whole life and text in the context listed above did not make sense AT ALL!
So this made me get very curious. So I set out to find out the true usage of the word. After all, I did know that the ending "ed" put something in the past tense. Obviously not in all cases with words such as "ran", but you get the point. I mean I hope you wouldn't say "So-and-so taxt me"... :D
So according to a source on Google Answers, that is citing the Oxford English Dictionary:
So pretty much using the best source you can use for words, the Oxford English Dictionary, anyone that tried to tell me the word "texted" isn't a word, and that "text" isn't a very should really reevaluate their knowledge of English!
That's it... I'm done on my soap box for now!
