Week 5 Weekly Reflection

This was a good week for me. I actually got the website completed as far as I needed to get it off the ground. I actually really like the look that I have on the website right now and feel that it is very user friendly. I had not originally liked the way that the website functioned so I changed the front page to actually have a blog like feel so I can post a few times a week about coaching or basketball in general. I feel that by doing this I will be able to get more customers to come to my website by it being more SEO friendly. That is where I am at right now. Just trying to figure out how to generate traffic.

Week 4 - Weekly Reflection

This was a fun week. I actually started putting content on my website. After using Weebly though, I think I might be looking to switch to WordPress. I will look into it and if it isn't too difficult I may be switching. I think I might switch because I can only have 6 pages with Weebly and I believe that with WordPress I can have more. If I can't though then I will stay with Weebly.

I put a couple items up on the Supplies page. I put some basketballs and clipboards. I also included a message board where you can go on and talk about coaching. I am hoping that it really starts to take off throughout the semester. If anything, I will have a year experience over by the time my hosting contract runs out.

Web Business Creation - Reflections from Week 3

This was a very exciting week for me. I was able to actually pick out a website host and start making a website. I decided to go with iPage because I liked the features that were included in the package. I got to use of a great site builder, Weebly, which is easily integrated into the web host. It came with over $150 of credits for advertising to be used at my expense.

After I started that I set up a Twitter account and a Facebook page. Now I need to work on putting the website together and include the integration of Amazon's Affiliate Program. I already set up my account with them, I am just waiting for my domain name to be put up so they will accept me as an Affiliate.

I am really excited about the rest of the semester and testing the market of starting a business. This is exactly why I took this class and I look forward for the struggle and joy that I will get from this class and project.

Web Business Creation - Reflections from Week 2

This week in class we had the chance to learn about the different ways to run an online business. I have been contemplating what I want to do for my business and I am pretty sure I am going to go with the affiliate program model. I have yet to decide where I ultimately want to do it from but I think I have decided that I want to do a website that is designed to do movie reviews where I will review the movies and then have links designed to send them to the item to purchase.

I am really liking this class and everything that I am learning. It has actually led me to wanting find a business idea to start in person. One of my class mates from last semester and I are looking to start a business. We have a few ideas that we are going to start attempting to complete. Hopefully we will be able to get something together.

Web Business Creation - Reflections from Week 1

This week was the first real week of my Web Business Creation class that I am taking. I am really looking forward to the challenge that will be presented to me during the semester in this class. I have been wanting to start a business lately so this will be the perfect opportunity for me to start one.

Before this semester I had always thought of a business as a place where you have inventory and sell to a customer base. I had never thought of affiliate marketing programs as a web based business, but after this week I have come to realize that it truly is a business model that several people do. This is something I am thinking about looking into for my business.

Another thing I am looking into possibly trying for the business is mixing the affiliate marketing program in with a sports blog where I will use my YouTube channel and make several videos a week about various sports topics and monetize the channel. So on top of making money through the affiliate marketing program I will have the sports blog to generate revenue also. So I can target two possible audiences.

I am really looking forward to learning more this semester about web businesses and the various aspects that it includes.
