Even though this could be dangerous, I have been doing some thinking today and yesterday. Over the past probably 7 months I have been debating an entrepreneurial expedition.
After much thought and debate in my mind, I decided that right now isn't the best time to venture out and try to start a business.
I know it is said that to succeed you there has to be a certain amount of risk taken. But right now my number 1 priority is to get my education.
I feel my education and knowledge of business is far more important and essential to my future as an entrepreneur then taking an unknown risk and risking the chance of not succeeding in school.
To me knowledge is power. The more I know the better off I will be in the future. I learned this principle from reading "Rich Dad Poor Dad" last fall. We need to gain as much knowledge about all topics while we can. If we do this then we can be in place to pursue all sort of different ventures.
I would say what the idea is, but I am holding my tongue and I am not going to spill the beans on my business ventures! I guess you will just have to keep coming back and checking up to see what that venture is :)
For what it's worth, I'd like to share my opinion. There is NO better time to start a business than when you are in school. You're living off of savings/scholarships/loans and have no immediate need of revenue. You're learning exactly the kinds of things that will make you successful, and surrounded by people who want to help (and are abundantly qualified to do so). You have nothing to lose. Starting a business will get you neck-deep in the theory they're trying to teach you in your classes.
ReplyDeleteSchool is wonderful, and you'll learn amazing things but remember that having a nice GPA will only be useful once. Once you've secured that first position after graduation, nobody will ever ask about it again. On the other hand, entrepreneurial experience will never leave you.
I've heard more than one recruiting company state the same. When asked what one thing students could do to prepare for success in the workplace, one particular well-known tech company stated, "Start a business. It doesn't matter if you're selling juice in jars over the internet. You'll learn about marketing, sales, inventory management, billing, customer service, etc. No class can teach you all of that."
Thanks for that input. I still have a lot of thinking to do. I do want to start a business, I just have to find the right business that is appropriate with my time availability. I have been leaning towards doing some sort of internet business.
